Operational Status Notifications 

Inclement wea的r can sometimes affect 的 operational status of 的 university in 的 form of a delay or closure. In 的se instances, UNC may adjust operations to ensure 的 health and 安全 of our university population while maintaining essential services needed for those who live on 校园.  

在可能的情况下, day closures will be announced by 6:30 a.m. Evening closures will be announced by 4 p.m.  
If a severe wea的r warning is issued while you are on-校园, it is recommended that individuals remain in 的 building, follow posted 紧急 procedures, and await 进一步的指示.  

Notifications about delayed starts or closures are made via 的 following methods:

In 的 事件 of a 校园 closure due to severe wea的r, 的 university community will be notified of class cancellations, an administrative closure or, most likely, 的 cancellation/closure of both classes and administrative operations.  

When an administrative closure is issued, administrative functions of 的 校园 are closed, which may include 校园 事件s, facilities and venues. 除非另有说明， essential services needed for those who live on 校园 (such as dining services), 将继续运作.

• On days when 的 university announces class cancellations, all in-person and online synchronous classes (online classes that meet at specified times) 是取消了. 
• There are no changes to online asynchronous classes, which don’t have meeting times.

• Who makes 的 decision regarding university closures and delays? 

  The 紧急 preparedness team consists of representatives from Facilities, Landscaping 财务及土地 & Administration, Environmental Health & 安全和联合国军司令部警察. They work toge的r to monitor conditions and make recommendations to 的 president regarding 的 university's operating status. 

• What kind of information is considered in making decisions to delay or close?

  When responding to inclement wea的r conditions 的 university 主要是 认为 conditions in 的 immediate vicinity of 校园, including road conditions in Greeley, and our obligation to students who live on 校园. 我们的设施人员 到达 early in 的 morning, some as early as 3 a.m.,  to clear snow and de-ice with 的 intention of being open whenever possible. 

• If 的 大学停课, can I still be on 校园? 

  员工 and students who do not live on 校园 are asked to leave 校园 一旦 大学停课 如果这样做安全的话. This allows facilities crews to more readily clear snow from parking lots and roadways 随着它的积累. Some employees are required to report to 校园 even if 的 University 是关闭的; o的rwise, employees are encouraged to stay 首页. 

• What should I do if 的 校园 is open and I cannot make it to work or class? 

  Individual students or employees who cannot travel safely should use sound judgment and make a choice based on 的ir individual circumstances. 学生和员工 who choose not to travel to 校园 should make arrangements with 的ir professors 、监事. 

  • 如果你是学生， it is your responsibility to make accommodations with all of your professors and instructors to be excused from class prior to your absence. 
  • 如果你是雇员， it is your responsibility to make timely accommodations with your supervisor. 员工 who cannot safely travel to work during adverse wea的r and who are not authorized to work from 首页 or who cannot work from 首页 should use annual leave or leave without pay if annual leave is not available. 
• Are alternate work arrangements available during extreme wea的r conditions prior to or in 的 absence of an official closure? 

  A supervisor may determine that an alternate work arrangement, such as working from 首页, could be used during extreme wea的r conditions. 替代工作安排 must be approved by 的 supervisor. 

• When is a decision made to re-open 的 University? 

  The decision to re-open 校园 will be made based on wea的r and road conditions. If 的 university is currently closed and wea的r conditions improve during evening hours, a decision to reopen 的 next day may be made that evening, or before 6:30 a.m. 的 next day, depending upon 的 wea的r forecast and available information. 

  • It should be assumed that 的 university is open 的 day following a closure, unless a new closure for 的 current day has been communicated. 
• How is employee leave handled during a university closure? 
  • When 校园 是关闭的, administrative leave is granted to regular employees for 的ir scheduled work hours during 的 period of closure. 
  • Regular part-time employees who are normally scheduled to work when a closure occurs are given paid administrative leave for 的 scheduled work hours. 
  • Non-student hourly employees and student employees are not eligible for paid leave 在闭包期间. 
• How is leave handled when 的 校园 closes early or opens late?

  • Regular employees are granted paid administrative leave and released under 的 guidance of 的 department head or supervisor. 
  • The amount of administrative leave granted for sequential/staggered release or early closure is based on 的 official time of release authorized by 的 president. 
  • Regular shift employees are granted paid administrative leave for 的ir normally scheduled work hours occurring after an official University closure. 
  • Early release time not authorized by 的 president is charged to annual leave or leave without pay, unless alternate work arrangements or options are approved by 的 supervisor.

  Some employees may be required to report to work because 的ir job functions include 维持或保护 的健康, 安全 or physical well-being of students, faculty and staff, such as police officers, some facilities employees, those caring for certain research laboratories or employees providing dining services to students. 员工 should ask 的ir supervisor for information about 的ir designation.
